Introducing cloud.microsoft: a unified domain for Microsoft 365 apps and services

As Microsoft cloud services have grown over the years, the domain space they live on has grown as well - into the hundreds. An image depicting a word cloud of dozens of different URLs on several different domains, all for existing Microsoft apps and services. That's why today we're excited to announce that Microsoft is beginning to reduce this fragmentation by bringing authenticated, user-facing Microsoft 365 apps and services onto a single, consistent and cohesive domain: cloud. Consolidating authenticated user-facing Microsoft 365 experiences onto a single domain will benefit customers in several ways. Microsoft TLD. Exclusive ownership enables enhanced security protocols and governance controls, and the value of security investments done at the top-level domain seamlessly accrue to the apps. Microsoft domain can be assumed to be legitimate and authentic: anyone attempting domain spoofing would have to go through Microsoft itself, as we are both the registry operator and sole registrant for this exclusive, trusted namespace. To learn more, visit Managing Microsoft 365 endpoints, and be sure to join us for an Ask Microsoft Anything on Wednesday, May 24th at 8:00 AM Pacific time to chat further with the leaders of this initiative about what to expect. -------------------- Read more at https://bit.ly/4473s1e Source: Microsoft Tech Community Microsoft 365 Blog

Access your Microsoft 365 cloud emissions data with the Microsoft Cloud for Sustainability API

Today, we are pleased to announce that customers can access their Microsoft 365 cloud emissions data via the Microsoft Cloud for Sustainability API. An image of the Microsoft Cloud for Sustainability API web portal demonstrating the new Microsoft 365 data source, availability status and connection button that you can toggle on or off. The Microsoft Cloud for Sustainability API allows you to access greenhouse gas emissions associated with your usage of Azure and Microsoft 365 services by scope type, month, year and region. For Microsoft 365, the data pulled through the API is consistent with the Emissions Impact Dashboard for Microsoft 365: datacenter emissions associated with your organization's usage of Exchange Online, Outlook, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. This calculation is market-based, meaning that it takes into account Microsoft's renewable energy power purchases. Along with the general availability announcement of the Emissions Impact Dashboard for Microsoft 365 last fall, we also published guidance in this Microsoft 365 Sustainability whitepaper on how admins and end users can act to help influence Microsoft 365 datacenter emissions. Organizations can now configure access to both emissions related to usage of Microsoft 365 services as well as emissions related to Azure usage from the Microsoft Cloud for Sustainability API portal, discoverable on the Microsoft Cloud Solutions Center. Microsoft 365 admins can enable access to their data across the organization with role-based permissions. -------------------- Read more at https://bit.ly/43O9vr4 Source: Microsoft Tech Community Microsoft 365 Blog

Support update for SharePoint 2013 workflow in Microsoft 365

As part of this evolution of Microsoft 365 solutions, we retired SharePoint 2010 workflow as of November 1, 2020. In continuation with this, we will be retiring SharePoint 2013 workflow and believe Microsoft 365 customers will be better served by modern workflow solutions. If you are using SharePoint 2013 workflow, we recommend migrating to Power Automate or other supported workflow orchestration solutions such as those from Preferred members of our Microsoft 365 Business Apps Partner Program. If your tenant is using a 3rd party workflow engine, you should also inquire if it has a dependency on Workflow 2013 and work through options to migrate to a future offering of the workflow engine. To understand if your organization is using SharePoint 2013 workflow or begin planning migration to Power Automate or other 3rd party orchestration tools, we recommend that customers run the Microsoft 365 Assessment tool to scan their tenants for SharePoint 2013 workflows usage. Using the Workflow Report along with site information, tenant administrators can plan the migration of SharePoint 2013 workflows with minimal impact to the users. Since the release of SharePoint workflows, Microsoft has evolved workflow orchestration to not only encompass SharePoint, but all the productivity services you use with Microsoft 365 and extend to 3rd parties. -------------------- Read more at https://bit.ly/3GP48hJ Source: Microsoft Tech Community SharePoint Blog

Request external files into SharePoint document libraries

Now we have extended the same capability for SharePoint - specifically requesting file into document libraries. A file request can start from a link in your email signature, a link in a chat, a hyperlink that is a part of your intake or onboarding processes with customers, clients, and vendors. To start, you simply select a folder you want the recipient to place documents into and click Request Files. The recipient clicks on the link, picks her or his files, and uploads - only able to see the files they upload. The original requestor will get an email when new files are added - seeing the new files with the name of the person who uploaded them. Once guest sharing is enabled, site owners and members can select a folder to request files into - after which you can send a unique link or email direct from the SharePoint user interface. What a recipient sees when they click on a request files link - a web page with a simple browse and upload experience; no access or visibility to anything else in the sender's SharePoint environment. Admins can use the SharePoint Online Management Shell to disable or enable the Request Files feature on OneDrive or SharePoint sites. -------------------- Read more at https://bit.ly/3GzuJ28 Source: Microsoft Tech Community SharePoint Blog
