OneDrive Roadmap Roundup Q2 CY2022

Announcing the general availability of idle session timeout for Microsoft 365 web apps

One of the ways users accomplish tasks, such as checking email, collaborating with others in a Word document, or replying to a chat, is by using Microsoft 365 web apps on their personal devices or on public kiosk devices. Today, we are super pleased to announce the general availability of idle session timeout for Microsoft 365 web apps. IT admins can now configure a tenant-wide timeout policy to automatically sign out users after a period of inactivity on Microsoft 365 web apps. From June to August 2022, this functionality will be rolled out in Microsoft 365 worldwide cloud environments of Office.com, Word, Excel, PowerPoint for the web, Outlook on the web, OneDrive for the web, SharePoint, and Microsoft 365 admin center. Based on multiple customer conversations and feedback sessions, it became evident that our customers were looking for a more predictable and coherent solution covering the entirety of Microsoft 365 web apps. One day as he was checking emails in Outlook on the web and accessing sensitive data on the Microsoft Teams web client, he received a work page that immediately required his presence in the emergency ward. Privacy changes and API support for Microsoft 365 usage reports

At Microsoft, we are committed to both data-driven insights and user privacy. As part of that commitment, we made a change in September 2021 to Microsoft 365 usage analytics to conceal user group and site names by default. Starting on June 23rd, we will conceal the GroupID variable in the Groups Activity section of the Microsoft 365 Active Users report and Microsoft 365 Apps usage report. At the same time, we will be introducing an API to assist global admins to manage data privacy controls for Microsoft 365 Reports. When concealing user group and site names are disabled, admin roles and Reports reader roles will be able to see identifiable user-level information. OneDrive File Picker v8 now Generally Available!

Today, we're excited to announce the general release of OneDrive File Picker v8, which enables you to directly integrate Microsoft 365 services into your own web applications. The OneDrive File Picker lets you connect your custom web apps to content stored in OneDrive and SharePoint. File Picker provides a consistent, familiar UI for your web app users to open, save, and share files stored in OneDrive or SharePoint. Get a file or folder ID for a file that can be used with Microsoft Graph to perform actions on the file. The development team at ClearPeople is using the latest version of OneDrive File Picker to create a user-friendly publishing flow via an Add It option in SharePoint or the Add It Teams app. Users who wanted to publish a private file for a broader audience-think of an HR manager who wants to publish a new policy document on the company's intranet site-were required to download the file from Teams, OneDrive, or SharePoint onto their device, and then upload the file from the device to the intranet. Now, Atlas developers have incorporated the OneDrive File Picker, so users can easily navigate to the file stored directly in their OneDrive, Teams channel, or SharePoint site and select it for publishing. Microsoft Loop components: Extending capabilities in Microsoft Teams and Outlook

Microsoft Loop components extend the capabilities of Microsoft Teams and Outlook, supporting small-group collaboration and flexibility so you can remain in sync-anywhere, anytime. Loop components are live and can be copied and pasted across Teams and Outlook - staying in sync in all the places they exist. New site template updates: new templates and the template history panel

It's been exciting to see how all of you are using SharePoint site templates since we released the feature last year. As with all of our other Microsoft-provided site templates, these are automatically available in SharePoint tenants and can be applied by users with site owner permissions or higher. Select Browse templates to see Microsoft templates and templates from your organization. Or apply a template to an existing site by navigating to Settings and then select Apply a site template. We've released the site template history panel. Site owners will be able to access the Site information panel from within Settings, and then select View template history. By default, Servicing profiles staggers an update deployment across four days, updating a random subset of devices each day. Servicing profiles offer you controls to target devices e.g. based on the update channel, usage of macros and more. Microsoft 365 Assessment tool helps scan for active SharePoint 2013 workflows

Since the release of SharePoint workflows, Microsoft has evolved orchestration to not only encompass SharePoint, but all the productivity services you use within Microsoft 365 and extend to 3rd party apps, through Power Automate. Power Automate for workflow orchestration connects to all Microsoft 365 services and over 220 other services to let an enterprise build custom workflows. SharePoint 2010 Workflows was retired as of November 1st, 2020 with the notice that we would also retire SharePoint Workflow 2013 in the future. Although we currently do not have a timeline to announce for SharePoint 2013 Workflow retirement, it is strongly recommended to move 2013 workflows to the Power Automate platform or some other modern workflow orchestration solution. To help, a new, open-source Microsoft 365 Assessment tool is available to help you identify and evaluate the usage of SharePoint 2013 workflows in your tenant. To understand if your organization is using any SharePoint 2013 Workflows or begin planning migration to Power Automate, we recommend that customers run the Microsoft 365 Assessment tool to scan your tenants for active 2013 workflows.
